* El estreno en Nueva York del cortometraje, “American Standard” occurs on July 22nd en 7:30 PM en Maysles Cinema. El cortometraje sigue a un veterano con problemas de regresar a casa desde Afganistán a la espera de indocumentados, novia inmigrante. Después de servir a su país, he has formed the idea that she might be using him to gain citizenship, as the two begin to clash over their traumatic pasts.

Plus, Writer/Director David Henry Herson curates an evening of other short films about Iraq and Afghanistan Veteran readjustment around his film’s premiere entitled, “Veteran Verite.” David is hoping to bring filmmakers and veterans together to discuss how cinema can do its part to bridge the gap between veteran and civilian, while welcoming our troops back home.

* Blue Door Art Gallery presents The New York Riverlight International Film Festival. The festival seeks both American and international submissions. Attendees will get free passes to various events and screenings, while holding a Q & A with filmmakers inside a state of the art screening room. This is going to be an inaugural event for all to attend!

* Directed by Fran Guijarro and Martin Rosete, along with producers Juli Lopez and Alvin Shen, the film “Moses” tells the unbelievable true story of a homeless man who has been living on the streets of San Francisco for more than two decades. The unconventional and groundbreaking film shows the grueling fight between the hope of getting a second chance and the gravity of the streets.
The film is in association with the Street Angel Program, a new project developed by a non-profit SF Revival that will connect members of the general public with homeless clients. The program will benefit directly from the revenues generated by the film and is now on Kickstarter to raise at least $50,000 in pledges to cover all postproduction costs. The crew has raised over $36,000 and has until Monday, Julio 16 to reach their goal.

* Please join filmmaker Geoffrey Guerrero and others for the Katra Film Series on Saturday, Julio 28th in the LES section of Manhattan, where every month the series will showcase 5-7 eclectic short films by up-and-coming filmmakers in the NYC Metropolitan area. At the end of the year, 10 shorts will be selected and screened in order to be considered for next year’s East Harlem International Film Festival.

* Bernardo Ruiz is having 2 screenings of his latest film, “Reportero.” The documentary follows a veteran reporter and his colleagues at Zeta, a Tijuana-based independent newsweekly, as a series of disappearances and heinous acts against journalists have taken place since December 2006, after President Felipe Calderón came to power.
